Amazon Price Match Workaround for Used or Already Assembled Items

As I’ve talked about before, Amazon no longer has a price match policy of any kind (except TV’s). Official or unofficial, you’re stuck with the price you pay on Amazon. This sucks because they’re notorious for changing the price on their products on a daily, even hourly basis. But not all hope is lost…

The “Re-Order” Amazon Price-Match Hack:

Because of Amazon axing their policy, many savvy shoppers have simply been returning items and re-buying them at the lower price.

But what if you’ve spent 5 hours putting something together or maybe you’ve customized an item and don’t want to return it? Here’s an Amazon hack for you…

I recently ordered 3 Pendant Lights from Amazon for a kitchen remodel I’m doing at home.

After spending a few hours taking down our old pendants and putting up the new ones, (and not electrifying myself) I noticed that Amazon lowered the price on these lights by $12 each.

$36 bucks in total on my 3 lights. I pretty big price reduction that grabbed my attention.

But since Amazon doesn’t offer a price-match anymore, I was NOT about to spend the time to take them down and try and get them back in the box and play the “return and re-buy game.”

So an idea hit me like a ton of bricks, and other than being a little dense, I’m not sure why it took me so long to think of it.

Why not just order 3 more pendant lights at the lower price, then when I get them, never take them out-of-the-box but rather return them via the more expensive original order number and details?

Guess what? It worked like a charm, and being an Amazon Prime member, I got free return and delivery shipping on everything.

So for just a few minutes of my time I pocketed a quick $36 which I’ll put toward the new tile backsplash in our kitchen.

Don’t Abuse It. I’m guessing if use this hack several times a month your account might get flagged.

I’d save this trick for when it really makes sense and scores you a bunch of extra dollars in your pocket.

Ask the Reader: Have you ever played the “return and re-buy” game at Amazon? Or do you just accept Amazon’s price fluctuations as part of the deal and never try to get money back?

Happy savings.
