TIL: Plans are actually overrated

I thought, the Safest way to get through something is to plan your steps carefully. I was wrong.

The past few days made me realize most things don’t go smoothly according to plans. That they always depend on Current Situations. Those current situations we had no idea about before. Those situations that were not anticipated. Those situations you never expected.

I used to plan my life from mini travels to career goals, but I’m not really sure how’s it gone.

I’m pretty low key now that I don’t have any plans in my life at all. I hate it when I get excited just to wake up to “hindi na tuloy” or “sorry”. Sinong hindi mababadtrip, diba?

I, too, have had lapses when I planned anything with my friends because of busy schedule at work. That’s one factor that slapped to my face when one friend got mad because I canceled our trip the last minute. Another is when I disappointed myself because I spent all my budget for nothing important instead of using it for the plans I’ve made for myself.

I remember proposing a plan for my writing group to further acknowledge and promote literature on Tumblr. Hmm. Yep, it didn’t go well. People were starting to comment “oh that’s a nice idea”, but after everything I’ve done to start the project, nobody participated. I even got a hater “ang bossy naman ni @themhayonnaise”.

“Depende” is the safest answer when asked “what’s your plan?”, I learned. Except when talking to investors, business partners, or bosses about your work responsibilities, every plan is meant to be delayed or postponed, changed, or canceled. So better tell them “depende, update kita” or say no right away, than make them wait.

Planning is indeed good in every aspect of life, but most of the time, they are ignored and thrown. Sad to say, people who are annoyed at being ditched will ditch you anyway. And I’m tired of it. I’m done trying to be the good guy here. So don’t expect anything from me from now on.

Hmm. What are your thoughts about planning? Are you an organized geek, or the usual “depende” kid?
