Assume Your Power – Rebel Forever

In the aftermath of the blatant display of white privilege… No, not that one, the other one, no… the one before. Did the media catch that last one? From the police brutality that we must be subjected to weekly if not nightly. The murder of unarmed civilians followed by acquittals and releases. The racist NBA and NFL owners, the black balling of NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, to the white supremacist rally and protest, which leads me to believe that the message is clear. This American system does not represent the best interest for Black people. It is time to regain our power. This country does not adequately represent truth and justice. It is more like lip service to their agenda. Rhetoric that allows you to sleep easier and accept your reality. With that being said, it is time to take back our power and consent. A statement that when read can seem vague or abstract but for Black People, our people, we must define what taking back our power means.

Assume Our Power

I’ve heard buying black and banking black. It seems to be the consensus, that black economics and generational wealth is the answer to black empowerment; but before we bang the gavel and call it the end all be all, let’s first consider two things. One being the historical precedent of Black Wall Street. An all-black affluent neighborhood, which was attacked by its own government because the prosperity of the community was seen as a threat. Secondly, amid the hand holding Kumbaya singing multiculturalism of these United States, we have neglected the importance of having a culture and heritage that we can call our own. We must be able to build and define ourselves outside the construct of this American Society. The ideologies of this country have never reflected the souls of Black People. It isn’t enough to point out oppression to the oppressor with shallow hopes that they will correct themselves or at least reflect upon themselves.

Root Of All Evil

I must take myself back in this instance, as Pro-Black as I am, as much knowledge as I have of the black plight and struggle. I must point out the true nature of this, what has become the human condition. The actions of Charlottesville, Virginia was in fact cause by the presence of an evil that has dwelled within these lands for centuries. Blood spread on these lands, the lives that were taken, the souls that still suffer from the genocide and atrocities. It is not to condemn a group of people for their thoughts and actions, but to condemn the system that empowers them.

Being Pro-Black is understanding my people’s condition. Being man, is understanding the human condition. If it is change we want, and I ask that with emphasis. Change sounds good up until the point where we must change. Don’t Boycott an NFL season, don’t protest a rally or hashtag another fallen brother and sister. Turn your back completely to this American culture. Empower yourselves economically and support your local brands, but all with the goal of leaving this economic and political system altogether. New ambitions, new motivations, new type of empowerment.
