Finding nice Furniture in KL may feel hopeless – most branded furniture comes with a hefty price tag and at first glance our Swedish friends with the famous meatballs seem to be your only hope. But fear not, there are other good furniture shops and KL is full of beautiful Asian furniture – whether it is teak, antiques or “antiques” you are after.
Second hand furniture in KL changes hands mostly through various Facebook forums, and we have a few spots to check for vintage furniture from our hunt for a perfect vintage book cabinet.
Unfortunately prices for new furniture are not as cheap as you would expect, so shop around for those special pieces. These are some of our favourite furniture shops in KL outside the malls and the usual international brands:
Antiques in KL: Ambiance
With shops in MK1, Bangsar Shopping Centre and Ampang, Ambiance is one of the best places to look for Asian antiques, as well as high quality reproduced Chinese furniture. In addition they stock a beautiful array of jewellery, decorative items, and smaller pieces of furniture – that can even fit in a suitcase!
HL Elegant Decoration (ex Treasure Gallery antiques warehouse)
This massive furniture warehouse used to be called Danasti a long time ago, and has relocated from the second location off Jalan Templer in PJ. You may get a bit dusty trawling through the aisles but you are bound to find something you like. We have not been recently, but in March it was at:

Lasting Impressions
Another shop with beautiful old furniture. They have small shops in Bangsar Village II and Great Eastern Mall, but I recommend a visit to their large showroom in Sunway Damansara, just a stone’s throw from the Curve.

Scent of the Orient

Raintree Accents
Raintree has upscale Chinese antiques. Check around the area, there are other, more affordable shops in the area that open and close.
Nostagic furniture at Recro and Kedai Bikin
The good old Second Charm in TTDI has reinvented itself as Recro Furniture, specialising in original and reproduced mid-century furniture, it can be found at 53 Lorong Rahim Kajai 13. Kedai Bikin is an up-and-coming design studio that uses nostalgic Malaysian form to create contemporary pieces.
Urban Culture and Fella Design
Urban Culture is a brand of Fella Design that we particularly like. Check the website for showroom locations, but at lest the one in PJ had a floor dedicated to Urban Culture last time I checked.
SSF
Playing in the same league with the famous blue-and-yellow superstore, SSF sometimes has good discounts and a variety of furniture, household stuff and decorative items with varying quality. There are number of outlets, the latest (and smallest) one in Hartamas Shopping Centre.
“Inspired” furniture
Shops selling trendy furniture seem to be popping out everywhere now. Timeless Design has a large selection, and Joy Design now has an outlet in Bangsar. More Design has a similar collection and an online furniture shop, as does Lancco. Ruma in Atria shopping centre has pretty pieces and home ware. Commune on Jalan Maarof is another one to check out. Oval Damansara has a few shops, including Nostaloft.
Teak furniture in KL
If you are after some classic teak furniture, start from Home Treasures, Teakia, Ethnicraft, AuthenTeak, Taekita and Purser’s Choise in Bangsar Village.
Kids’ furniture in KL
One of the most comprehensive kids’ furniture stores is Tomato Kidz.
Rattan furniture
Rattan art has some great modern pieces, whereas Rattan Decor does other types of furniture too. Read more about Rattan Art here.
