Kuantan and Cherating are just an easy three-hour drive a way from KL, a distance the batteries on kids iPads can comfortably last. However, there are very few places along that long stretch of sand that one wants to come back to – without spending a small fortune. We had spotted this inviting B&B on a previous trip to Cherating and when the boys of the family started daydreaming about body-boarding we decided it was a time to pay them a visit.
Casa Titik is a Spanish style villa – mansion almost – with only 10 rooms. We had a family room on the second floor, with a master bedroom and a living area with a sofa bed – giving us ample space. There was even a fridge in the room – had we known we would have come better prepared! The beds were comfy and everything was clean. The rate includes a simple breakfast of standard eggs and sausages, or pancakes. Toast, cereal and juice was also available. Coffee and tea are available all day but just the instant kind I’m afraid.
We only had one objective for this quick weekend getaway from KL: to get to the waves. That was easily achieved since it was December, middle of the surfing season in Cherating and the waves were strong and constant. Casa Titik is just a few steps (literally 2 minutes) from the wide beach with nobody on it.
Sand flies, those little pesky inhabitants of Malaysian shores, made an appearance but we escaped them to the waves or the swimming pool of Casa Titik.
There is a (slightly dilapidated) horse stable next to Casa Titik with healthy-looking horses in paddocks by the sea. We tried to inquire about riding them but couldn’t find anyone to talk to – but the hotel staff said riding can normally be arranged there. There were also loads of cats at Casa Titik to the delight of my animal-crazy children.
For years we’ve hoped to find a simple but clean and cosy place by the sea that would be easily accessible from KL even just for a one-nighter and we think we’ve finally found one! Quality of the facilities was much better than in many hotels and we thought it was great value – we paid RM375 for the family room. You can check the current rate here.
