5 Self-Care Tips For Traveling During Pregnancy

Taking a break to travel can be a welcome relief when you’re pregnant, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. You have to be extra careful, with the health of you and your baby. Afterall, it is now your number-one priority. The importance of self-care cannot be underestimated.

Here are five simple ways to look after yourself if you decide to travel during Pregnancy.

1. Use a suitcase with four rotating wheels

You wouldn’t think your choice of luggage would have that much of an impact on your Traveling plans, but it does — especially if you’re pregnant.

A suitcase with wheels is easy to pull along and a suitcase with four wheels even more so. The even weight distribution means fewer aches and pains for you. Ask someone to lift your hand luggage into the overhead locker once you’re on the plane.

(Not sure what to pack? Baby Centre’s pregnancy travel checklist will help.)

2. Secure your seatbelt under your bump

Whether you’re traveling by car or by plane, the same rule applies: wear your seatbelt under your bump. If you wear it across your stomach, you risk any sudden jolts harming the baby — exactly what you don’t want to happen.

3. Wear comfy shoes traveling during pregnancy

You might be doing less walking than normal, but even so, your feet will probably be swollen, especially if you’re traveling somewhere warm. Stick to supportive sandals and trainers (or just dunk your feet in the pool).

Better yet have your husband whip out the royal treatment and give you a foot massage. It’s the least he could do

4. Stay hydrated and keep snacks in your bag

It’s important to sip on water regularly since pregnancy means you’re going to need more fluid to stay hydrated. Holidaysafe’s general pregnancy health tips include carrying a refillable bottle around with you when you’re out and about, and keeping a glass beside you when you’re relaxing, whether you’re in bed or sitting out by the pool.

Snacks, meanwhile, will keep your energy levels up and can also keep nausea and cravings at bay. Wholemeal crackers, trail mix, and fresh fruit are all good options.

5. Take it slow

Pregnancy can be exhausting — you’re growing a human, after all — and you may not be able to do everything you normally do on vacation. That’s okay! Go at a slower pace than normal and listen to your body.

You don’t have to have a jam-packed schedule and an itinerary dictating what you should be doing every minute of the day. Just go with the flow and do what you want. It’s a vacation after all! Your husband will understand if he has to take the kids to the amusement park by himself. It’s a great way for them to bond anyway.

If you need to spend a day relaxing and doing nothing, then that’s what you should do. Travelling gives you the freedom and flexibility to do what you want when you want.

8/17/18 Happy Friday! I just love Fridays, don’t you? I want to go browse around some stores after work.

I think I might even take my little one to Bahama Bucks Do you have any pregnancy travel tips? Let us know in the comments!
