5 Easy and Effective Tricks For Keeping Your Home Secure

Terrible things can happen when we least expect. While no one should go around with one eye open constantly looking out for danger or predicting the worst, it is also important for you to protect yourself and your family. Your home is one of those places that can be targeted, and more often than not, opportunists will wait until you leave your house and try and gain entry to steal valuables that will make them a quick buck or two.

How people have the thought process to do this, we will never know, but what you can do is protect your home as best as you can. This way, they may avoid your home or just not be able to penetrate your Security features. I thought I would share with you what some of the best ways to secure your home are. Hopefully, it helps!

Make Sure All Locks are Reliable

One of the biggest ways to protect your home is through your door locks. However, you may not have changed your locks or replaced them when they weren’t working effectively. This is why it is important to repair & replace locks on doors when you need to, just to keep up with the level of security.

This is also a good idea to do if you have just moved into a new place. After all, you may not be able to account for all of the keys from the previous owners. One could be hiding in their junk drawer or maybe they are shady people trying to get one over on you.

Add a Security System

An alarm or security system is an excellent way to add security to your home. It is actually a Physical Deterrent as many people will be able to see the alarm system sign and any security cameras you have placed. This tends to be the most popular way to keep your home safe and secure.

Get a dog

Another physical deterrent that could have people avoiding breaking into your home would be to get a dog. In most cases, once a noise is made Fido would bark as a warning, and this could stop the burglar in their tracks. Of course, this shouldn’t be the only reason to get a pet dog, but it could be a great added benefit!

Our dog has recently become very protective of our backyard and barks at any strange sounds she hears. She really did not like the irrigation person that decided to walk into our backyard unannounced. Luckily, she’s all bark and no bite.

Think About Your Boundaries

Fences and walls are an easy way to protect your home.  Sometimes burglars feel like they are too much work to get over and make escaping more difficult. An opportunist will be looking for a quick getaway, so this could be an easy way to make sure they walk right by your house.

Keep Windows and Doors Locked

It may seem obvious, but it is important to actively keep windows and Doors Locked when you are not at home. Accidents do happen but make it part of your routine to double check all entry points before leaving your home or going to bed.

I hope these tips help you keep your family safe!

2/23/18 Grandpa is having crazy low blood pressure while standing. No wonder the poor guy has been lightheaded all week. Of course, the doctor won’t change any meds until we keep a log for a bit.
