In retrospect…how I should’ve blogged

I’ve been rummaging through some of my older Blog Posts on my computer. These posts were from my first foray into blogging, and I tell you what…they are soooo long. I read through a paragraph in one of them and I couldn’t be bothered to read the rest. Nevertheless, it’s pretty nifty having a look at your old work to see where you went wrong or where you have improved.

In some ways this post is just a couple of tips on blogging. However, it’s also my observations on how I’ve grown as a blogger. Now they might not necessarily bring any readers, I think most of the people who visit my site are spammers or creepy old guys (just kidding). Instead these tips have helped me Write Blog Posts. I’ve always had trouble with length, the content and commitment to the post and I still do. I remember writing a really long article in the past and it felt like I was writing an essay. It’s one of the many reasons I had a break from blogging in the first place.

Nowadays I like to follow a couple of rules when I’m blogging:

  • Be interested in your own blog post. If you can’t be bothered reading your entire post, why would other people want to read it?
  • Keep them short. It’s easy to write a short blog post compared to an essay.
  • Don’t write when you are about to fall asleep. It’s not only unproductive, I also find that I can never remember what I was writing about.
  • Stop checking your site stats. Blogging is about sharing your views and writing about something you love. Checking stats always bogs you down from doing what people want you to do. Which is to write amazing articles.
  • Write when you feel like it. Don’t force yourself to write. This was another reason why I took a hiatus from blogging. If you force yourself to write it’s going to feel like a chore and we all hate chores.
  • Make it personal. Some posts benefit from having an objective tone. Most blog posts benefit from telling people how you feel or what you think.
  • Read your old posts. By doing this you can see where you went wrong or right.
  • A final tip, life comes first. If you have things to do in real life, then blogging can wait.

Well there it is. My list of things I’ve learnt from my sporadic blogging habits and from reading my old blog posts. Just following these have helped me Write blog posts and in fact this blog is like my pride and joy even though it gets no readers and has no colour (I’ll get onto that one). I hope these tips help, if you have anymore or you like this post, comment below!
