The arrival of Fall brings resistance in my soul. It is not that summer is completely gone; there will still be days of warm sunshine to enjoy. But this summer has held me captive with its long days of sunshine, beautiful flowers, traveling, camping, friends. I feel so hesitant to welcome fall. Yet, I know it is definitely here. This morning I awoke to a white frosty front yard.
It is interesting to live so far north in the U.S. In the deepest winter the sun arrives around 8 a.m. and disappears again around 4:30 p.m. While that makes for some cozy indoor time, I am in love with the summer schedule, arriving around 6 a.m. and disappearing around 11 p.m. This summer I felt a bit like a kid again, spending my days in shorts and bare feet. I had forgotten how lovely that is.
Rather than give in to winter just yet, I will focus on fall. Although the leaves will all be gone within a few weeks, I determine that fall is the season before 20 below zero. Therefore, I (hopefully) have 3 months to embrace and enjoy.
So, welcome fall! May you show me new treasures that my open eyes and heart can see!
