Kaal Bhairav, Hanuman Dhoka, Kathmandu, Nepal

 Art By- Satish Bajracharya

Kaal Bhairav (The Keeper Of Time)

This Statue is located at Hanuman Dhoka in the capital city of Nepal. It has historic significance. The origin of the statue dates back to the 3rd century but no one knows the exact date. It was believed to be found in the 17th century while digging a paddy field in Kathmandu. Kaal Bhairav is one of the fiercest forms of Lord Shiva. It was believed that if you lie in front of the statue you will die. Therefore, this statue acted as a supreme court during the 17th century (Malla period). Similarly, a jail is located near the statue. This shows the historical linkages with the statue.
