WHY COMPETITIVE SPORTS IS GOOD FOR CHILDREN

WHY Competitive Sports IS GOOD FOR CHILDREN

Many people have different views on Competitive sports for kids.
Some people may argue that competitive sports pressure students into overworking, and cause a high
rate of injury. However, others may retort by saying that With the many benefits, however, teens
competing in high school sporting events must simultaneously balance  athleticism with the potential
dangers, such as an overly intense focus on the goal of winning

For example public school review said, “Researchers at the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports at
Michigan State University report, “Kids who participate in organized sports do better in school, have
better interpersonal skills, are more team oriented, and are generally healthier.”.because competitive
sports are so hard on the children’s mental and physical state, they may teach students life lessons
that cannot be taught by the textbook.

In my opinion, competitive sports for children has its downsides, but the positives outweigh the
negatives in the end. One of my supporting arguments is that competitive sports teach crucial time
management skills because of the time consuming training sessions. When kids have limited time to
do their schoolwork, they will be forced to use their time-management skills to get work done. Adding
on to the point, when kids do competitive sports it helps them to improve their fitness and save their
parents time that would have been spent arguing with their child, forcing them to take a walk in the
park.

According to a statistic, most 19-20 year olds may regret that their parents did not push them to
stick with their competitive sport. Even though some people will address the risks that come with
competitive sports, such as injuries in competitive sports, especially in contact sports, I would argue
that learning how to not push too hard is a life skill that children would have to learn some day.

One of the points that I would like to make is that many school children need to keep in shape and
without competitive sports kids may not be able to be motivated. According to the telegraph,
“They can’t catch, throw, jump or run – the fundamental basic movements of every sport.” I think
that this means that if the kids do not have the motivation or the opportunity to play competitive sports
they will not be able to have a healthy lifestyle. I also think that even though recreational sports are
available, the spirit of competition will help the children to not only enjoy the sport more but to be
motivated to try harder

Even though some may argue that student leagues have too much of a focus on winning, according to
huffington post, Keeping score gives us extra motivation to do our best. We pursue excellence when we
compete”This quote means that without competition in sports, kids will not be able to be as motivated to come
to training if there is no purpose in their training if their goal is solely to “Keep in Shape’ This is why I think
that competitive sports is better than recreational sports.

KEY POINTS:
-Competitive sports allow kids to stay in shape
-Kids have to learn to deal with injuries and adversatary
-Competitive sports builds sportsmanship
-Most kids want to play their competitive sport, even if their parents didn’t pressurise them
-Kids are not using their time well even outside of their sports
