Giving Back!

Now that it is coming up on the Holiday season and Thanksgiving is just around the corner, it is time to reflect on this past year and envision ways to progress and become even better for this next year of your life. When evaluating 2017 through my perspective, I wish that I could have given back to my community more. Many people wish to volunteer over the holidays and in this post I want to explore some of those options. The Christmas season should be about giving, not getting!

  1.  ASPCA Donations and Volunteering!

Spend some time at your local humane society walking puppies and giving love to the innocent animals that experience the holidays in a cold kennel. If you don’t have the time or are allergic, make some simple tie blankets and maybe donate some treats or food! The Humane Society is always looking for donations and is super appreciative of any time and effort put into helping their organization! Go love on all the PUPPIES!

 2.  Donate to a Known Animal Organization

Some of my favorite rescue shelters and organizations are located far away from where I currently live; because of this, I follow all of their social media platforms in order to know what and where I can donate to. Here are a list of social media links that are my personal favorite organizations and are worthy of your time and effort!

  • Fight for Rhino’s!

  •      The Kangaroo Sanctuary!

  •     Road Dogs!

I absolutely love this organization. They work so hard to help these dogs and it makes my heart happy.

  •     Old Friends Senior Dogs Sanctuary!

This organization is specifically aimed towards caring for senior dogs and is very family oriented.

  •     Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue!

3.  Charities!

While there are food drives that occur seasonly, these are almost always useless in helping out at your local Salvation Army or other local charity. Instead of donating old food cans that are left in your pantry, it is more effective to just write a check. If you are truly looking to help out your local community, can the cans and donate your time or money instead!

If you are having trouble finding places to volunteer at, here is a website that will find local places for you!

4.  Donate Blood!

If you are a brave soul that would love to donate blood or plasma over the holidays, these donations are extremely needed and your local Red Cross will be so thankful for your time! Every blood and plasma donation truly counts!

5. Start a Recycling or Compost Bin!

Give back to the Earth! Start bringing reusable grocery bags when you buy your produce! Start a compost bin and donate it to your local co-op. Check out your local recycling laws and standards to know how you can better distribute your waste!

I hope these few tips and tricks inspire you to give back over the holiday season and urge you to make Christmas a selfless and heartwarming holiday!

Sincerely,

Your favorite millennial asshole
