25 Things I Want to Achieve Before Turning 25

Goals Before Turning 25

Turning 24 earlier this week has got me thinking about all the things I would like to achieve before 25 in a years time. Although I may have only just celebrated one birthday, a year never really feels that far away. Especially not as the older you get. I do Love a good old list, so I thought I would put together a list of the things I’d like to achieve in the next year, before turning 25.

1. Get confident with driving again

I learnt how to drive and passed my test when I was 19. At the time I thought it was an ideal time to learn, in the period of summer break between my first and second year of college. I figured I’d never have another time period with such a long break before going to university, and it seemed ideal after saving up.

I finally passed my test and it was another ‘adult’ thing ticked off my list. But not driving again since has brought it’s problems. I’d love to feel confident getting in a car again and keep up my practise!

2. Hit our house savings goals

Buying a house is one of the biggest commitments I’m ever going to make. We have been saving up for two years now and we are hoping to reach our target by the end of 2017, and start looking to buy in 2018. It’s going to take an awful lot of saving and budgeting to get there, but I’m so excited for us to buy our first home together (hopefully!) to be able to achieve this before I’m 25 would be incredible.

3. Read more

This is on my list time and time again. I really enjoy reading books, but finding the time is sometimes harder than anything. Before I know it, I’ve read three pages and fallen asleep on the sofa. Ditch the phone, pick up the book. You can do it.

4. Worry less

I’m SUCH a worrier. I’ve always been worried about one thing or another, even if there’s nothing to worry about. I worry that there’s nothing to be worried about, because there has to be something – RIGHT? Wrong, chill out and just enjoy things a bit more.

5. Finally open that Etsy shop you’ve always talked about

For years, I mean literally years, I’ve had sketches in notebooks with all these designs for stationery I’d love to create. Telling myself you’re good enough is the first step I’ve not quite got over. Nothing ventured, nothing gained right?

6. Learn a new skill

I think we’d all love to have something a little un-usual (or less so) that we’d like to have a skill in. I’d love to do a cooking class, or something to do with baking. I love food, so why not gain a new skill in the process? Perhaps 25 is the age I learn not to burn things…

7. Don’t give up on my blog

It’s easy to fall in and out of love with blogging. After recently asking fellow bloggers who blog alongside their career or studies, I’ve realised I’m putting way too much pressure on myself. I’ve reduced my content plan to just two posts a week to really focus on what I’m putting out there; and more importantly, enjoy it again.

8. See more places in the UK

Despite living in the UK my whole life, there’s not actually that many places in the UK I’ve ventured to outside of where I’ve lived. It’s time to make good use of my under 25s rail card one and for all!

9. Live a day un-planned

I’m obsessed with organisation. If I don’t know what’s happening at every exact moment I’m just a stressed out mess. I want to live in the moment more, wake up with no plans for the day and just see where the world takes me.

10. Improve on my yoga

I started yoga around two years ago at a local studio, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I never thought of myself being a fully-fledged yogi, but I’m so grateful for the mindfulness and peace it’s brought me. I’d love to build on that again before I’m 25.

11. Start saving for our wedding

So, we might not yet be engaged, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have plans to be married. Seeing other friends get married recently has made me realise just what an expense it can all amount to, even on a budget. The sooner we start saving, the easier it’s going to be in the long run.

12. Keep up with ballet

I always wanted to do ballet as a child but never had the chance. Starting ballet as an adult is one of the hardest yet most rewarding things I’ve done. Some days I want to throw the towel in, but seeing my progress over the past few years from absolutely nothing to an almost perfect pirouette is an achievement.

13. See more of Scotland

I’ve been living in Edinburgh for almost four years now. The time has flown by and so much has changed, but I’d love to get out there and see more of Scotland. We are looking at doing the Scotland 500 route around the coast and highlands and islands, which should more than tick a few places off my list!

14. Reach a new continent

In my life I’ve been to various places across the globe, including Europe, Asia, and North America. I’d love to be able to add another continent to the list. Perhaps South America or Australia?

15. Watch my way through the classics

There’s nothing better than snuggling up on a Saturday night and watching a film. There are so many I’d love to see, and I’d love to tick some of the classics off my list.

16. Really understand my camera

I studied photography at A-level and have been taking photographs since I was five. But there’s still some dials on my camera I avoid touching. I’d love to gain a more in-depth understanding and really make my photographs the best they can be.

17. Go to a festival

I’ve never even been to a concert for fear of people being so tightly crammed in one room. But I think (with the right festival) a festival could be a better option. Even if it’s just a day trip, it’s something I’d love to experience!

18. Go on a road trip with friends

This one is a little bit of a cheat, as I’m actually off to do this very thing over summer. A few of us are going to be attending a friends wedding in the Republic of Ireland, and we are planning a road trip driving through Northern Island and along the coastal routes whilst we are there.

19. Learn how to write in calligraphy

Calligraphy has been all the rage recently, and well – why not? It’s a beautiful hand written art and something I’d love to be able to do, especially working as a designer. Who knows, maybe I can incorporate it into that Etsy shop too…

20. Do something to challenge my fears

We all have things we are scared of, I’d love to be able to challenge that and really push myself out of my comfort zone. Watch this space!

21. Be more active

Working so close to our home it’s easy to not get much exercise in Monday – Friday. I need to make more of a habit of using my lunch hour to go on a walk somewhere and clear my head and see the sights, instead of scrolling on Twitter.

22. Have an ultimate ‘treat yo-self’ day

We all need a little pamper and re-wind sometimes. I’m going to have a pamper day and be indulgent for myself for once. Perhaps a spa day is in order.

23. Make the most of living in Edinburgh

I’m lucky to live in arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. People would love to be in my position and I don’t make the most of living here enough. It’s time to be more of a tourist in my own city.

24. Stop complaining so much!

A positive outlook makes for a positive mind. I’m quite prone to a whinge every now and then and it doesn’t achieve anything. If you don’t like something, change it!

25. Enjoy being young

Time and time again I’m told to enjoy my youth whilst it lasts. We’re all desperate to grow up sometimes and hit the next milestones, but I don’t want to pass up on opportunities along the way. Live for the moment!

What’s on your list of goals before your next milestone birthday?
