Styling Winter Brights Colours in Winter

As we edge closer and closer towards spring, I can’t help but feel a little excited for brighter days to come. But why should bright colours in our wardrobe only be restricted to seasonal wear on sunny days? Let’s face it, living in the UK can have it’s dark and rainy day at any point in the year; which is why I’m brightening things up a little with a spot of sunshine in my wardrobe.

SS17 Purchases

I instantly fell in love with this Yellow faux leather skirt from New Look’s SS17 collection over the weekend. Backed up by the comment ‘oh that really is a Louise kind of skirt’ from my friend Laura, it would be rude not to, right? There’s something so wonderfully cheery about the colour, perfect for making any dark Winter day instantly more colourful. Paired here with my floppy hat from Old Navy, black boots from Dune, gingham off the shoulder ruffle blouse from Primark, and this perfectly matching yellow clutch.

Finding The Right Shade for Your Skin Tone

Sharing an image of this look on my Instagram someone commented: ‘I would love to wear this colour, but it doesn’t suit my pale skin tone’. I’m pretty pale myself, and full of freckles. More-so ginger as a child (true fact) and easily burn, even on a cloudy day. Now that’s basically the dictionary definition of pale if I ever heard one. So what’s stopping you?

If you’re worried yellow doesn’t suit you, or similar bright colours, try it in a shade down or two. Mustard yellow is one of my all time favourite colours. Less harsh on paler-skin tones, and also just as beautiful on darker ones. Here’s to brightening up winter blues with a splash of colour; and looking forward to sunnier skies and longer days this spring.
