Top things to do in August

Summertime finally arrived in France as I’m writing this new post for August in Paris

So if you are in Paris in August, enjoy this month like a real Parisian, not a tourist!

Among many summer events, I would make the following recommendations:

  • Les Docks – Cité de la Mode et du Design: located in the east, at the start of the new trendy part of Paris, this cultural place is certainly the place to know and the place to be: “Play” is a new exhibition about creation and games to visit with children during the day, and the “wanderlust” its rooftop is the perfect spot to enjoy a drink and other events by night!
  • Paris Plage of course! More than 10 years after the 1st beach in Paris, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet Parisians along the Seine or the Bassin de la Villette (in the north of Paris): new sports and music events to discover among more relaxing activities! This year the Paris Plage along the Seine will remain till September 4th … Enjoy a smooth “rentrée” as it’s still summertime in Paris!
  • Rock en Seine: another nice event to share with the Parisians! A 3-days rock festival always happening the last weekend of August, not along the Seine but in Saint Cloud (West of Paris): more than 60 rock artists coming from around the world… In Paris, it’s always time to take part to a festive moment!

Would you are more interested by cultural events, August isn’t the best month for that, as many exhibitions just ended, but among the still remaining ones, I would recommend:

  • Paula Modersohn-Becker (1876–1907) at Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris: lots of tenderness and sensibility in the work of this modern art German painter! (until August 21)
  • Charles Gleyre (1806-1874) at Musée d’Orsay: Another style, more conventional for this Swiss painter influenced by the antique period (until August 21)
  • Artistes in Montmartre at Musée de Montmartre : a new presentation of the work of 20 artists who lived in Montmartre from 1870 to 1910 – a great opportunity to enter and enjoy the Renoir Gardens
