If there is one hashtag or topic in Twitter that is widely searched by Filipino netizens, it could the #WalangPasok hashtag. Government agencies particularly coined the hashtag to post announcements of special non-working holidays and class suspensions during typhoons and other calamities.
On Thursday, the hashtag has trended on the microblogging site anew because of the supposed good ‘news’ of a very long weekend. The supposed announcement came from Malacañang Palace declaring February 29 (Wednesday) until 31 (Friday) as special non-working holidays, which could mean a very long weekend.
But to spoil the excitement of netizens, February 29-31 is not actually existent, not even February 29 because 2017 is not a leap year.
February 29 only happens every four (4) years. Last year was a leap year, thus the next February 29 will be in 2020.
