The Supreme Court reserved verdict on Wednesday on PILs seeking a CBI probe into alleged financial and procedural irregularities in the Rafale deal after seeking an unscheduled briefing from the Indian Air Force brass on the suitability and capabilities of the French-made fighters.

The SC was hearing petitions levelling several allegations against the government in the procurement of 36 fully loaded Rafale fighters under an India-France inter-governmental agreement after scrapping the UPA government’s move to purchase 126 such jets.

The petitioners claimed that the UPA-era deal was almost finalised while the government argued it was stalled and going nowhere.  Read More
