Martyrs Day 2018: Talking about Bhagat Singh, Why we forget Sukhdev, Rajguru and Batukeshwar Dutt?

On March 23, 1931, three people were hanged. Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. 23 March is one of Martyrs Day. In India, there are few days that are celebrated as  Martyrs Day. These Martyr Days are 30 January, 23 March, 21 October, 17 November, 19 November. Martyr Day is a day to those people who are recognised as martyrs for the nation. There are countless things on Bhagat Singh’s execution, martyrdom, and his views. But what about Sukhdev and Rajguru? You will have seen Bhagat Singh’s stickers and paintings on many trains, t-shirts. Sometime this happened when Bhagat and other two people are also seen.

We all often add to the execution of Bhagat Singh on March 23 in colloquial speaking. But people ignore the other martyrs. The reductions, from the governmental work, the cities and symbols are are seen everywhere.

Martyrs Day – Bhagat Singh : Why we forget our Heroes?

Sukhdev Thapar was the backbone of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. In the assembly where Bhagat Singh carried out the bombing, Sukhdev played the key role in planning. There is also a place in Pakistan in the name of Bhagat Singh. But the city of Sukhdev? Sukhdev is not included in any identity of Ludhiana.

It is said that Sukhdev Thapar was born in Nogarh Mohalla of Ludhiana. The streets going to his house, his identity is not known. Ludhiana city’s bus stand and a school are definitely under his name. Governments of Punjab made many arrangements in the name of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh but in these there is hardly any mention of Sukhdev.

On the other side, if you talk about the third partner Rajguru, the situation is a bit different. Rajguru’s village is 40 kilometers away from Pune. In 2017, the Government of Maharashtra gave a budget of Rs. 5 crores to restore Rajguru’s native place. Earlier, the project had been stuck in files for a long time. Every year there was a program. About 500 people attended this program. After this help from the government, it will improve further.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s contribution is tremendous. But forgetting about other martyr’s is not done. There should all be equally respected.

But many questions arise on this matter. Each year, these thoughts come like rising sea and then go away.
