Five years ago, Kazuo Hirai took over from Howard Stringer as CEO of Sony. To commemorate it, over the weekend, the Japanese press published a number of puff pieces commemorating a reign, which definitely didn't start auspiciously. He marked his arrival with a pretty awful speech, which suggested that the firm had learned absolutely nothing from its recent travails, and then proceeded to undertake precisely the sort of root-and-branch restructuring that was eschewed in his speech....(continued)
