Today, small-caps were outperforming Sensex in afternoon trade and at around 1:25 pm, the BSE Smallcap index was trading 1.1 percent up at 14,554, while the benchmark Sensex was 0.50 percent down at 36,343.
It was observed that the Shares of IL&FS Engineering & Construction Company, IL&FS Transportation Networks, and Trigyn Technologies jumped up to 20 percent in the smallcap index. Also, the shares of Ecotech, Gati, Infibeam Avenues and Emmbi Industries surged over 15 percent.
However, shares of Ashapura Intimates Fashion, J Kumar Infraprojects, and A2Z Infra Engineering cracked up to 10 percent in the smallcap pack. Sustained capital outflow, surging crude oil prices and rupee’s poor health weighed on market sentiment. Moreover, investors remained on the sidelines even as the RBI’s monetary policy committee meeting began to decide on key rates.
Shares of most oil marketing companies were trading with gains in afternoon trade on Wednesday, keeping the sectoral index in the positive zone. The BSE Oil & Gas index was trading 1.2 percent up at 14,972 around 01:15 pm. HPCL, BPCL, Indian Oil Corporation, and ONGC were the top gainers in the oil & gas index.
