ChinaYunLong Ransomware

The Chinayunlong Ransomware is an unfinished file-encryption Trojan, which is named after a string found in its source code. This might mean that this is the product of Chinese cyber crooks, but there is no way to confirm this yet since the ChinaYunLong Ransomware does not provide any information regarding its goal, origin or demands. In fact, the ChinaYunLong Ransomware is far from finished since even if the users have their files locked by it, the threat will not be able to provide them with any meaningful instructions on what to do next.

The ChinaYunLong Ransomware’s attack can be recognized by the file extension that will be added to the name of all locked files automatically – ‘.yl.’ It appears that the ChinaYunLong Ransomware targets PDF, JPG, PNG, MP3, SQL, XLSX, DOCX, TXT, and other commonly used file formats. After completing the file-encryption attack successfully, the ChinaYunLong Ransomware will display a ransom message, which is hosted in a new program window titled ‘China Yun Long.’ However, the text in the window appears to consist of scrambled symbols so that it is possible that the authors of the ChinaYunLong Ransomware may have experienced some problems with the encoding of their text. However, the window does contain an input field, which is likely to be used to enter a password (decryption key), which should lead to the recovery of the victim’s files. Unfortunately, the ChinaYunLong Ransomware does not include details on how to acquire the password so that victims of this threat might be in a rather complicated situation.

It is possible that the authors of the ChinaYunLong Ransomware may opt to release a finished version of their file locker in the upcoming weeks or months so that this might not be our last encounter with this ransomware. Dealing with the ChinaYunLong Ransomware might not be easy since this threat causes long-term damage to your files, and removing the source of the problem will not recover the data to its original state. The advice to victims of the ChinaYunLong Ransomware is to use a credible and up-to-date security tool to get rid of the ChinaYunLong Ransomware, and then look for alternative file recovery solutions, which might help them restore the data lost during the attack.
