Anti-Trust Friend

In a mashable piece today they talk about Facebook entering the geolocation game, much of the chat is about whether foursquare will survive or adapt in a different way.

These things are always hard to predict, but what is for sure is that if Facebook put their weight behind another service, then it has a pretty good chance of succeeding.

Its led me to think about Social Media in a different way. All of the companies involved are that; companies, profit is king (though I'm sure they would say user experience). So if Google and Facebook are essentially website Microsofts, how long should it be before there are competition laws?

I suppose it would be hard to implement, Google for instance practically does everything, so unless there were very specific American laws it would be unenforceable... but if a few companies dwarf all others, is that a good thing or a bad thing for the consumer?

(Oh Tim Robbins, I'm sorry for besmirching your name with the anti-trust-ness but then again you did agree to be in it....)
