Folder is not accessible while working on Windows XP


While working with your computer, it is really frustrating to get Error Message that halts the process you are performing. One such error message is:

“folder is not accessible. Access is denied”

Where folder denotes the name of the inaccessible folder.

It appears when you try to open a folder in Windows XP based computer system. The error message leads to inaccessibility of the data in the folder resulting in the serious case of data loss. In such a case, you can recover your lost data from a backup. But in absence of an updated backup, you can still recover the data using Windows data recovery software.

The error defined above occurs when; the inaccessible folder in this context has been created on an NTFS file system volume of a previously installed Windows after which Windows XP is installed. You receive the error message even if you provide the correct user name and password. The reason for the error message is changed Security ID for the user which prohibits opening of the folder. Situation when you receive the error message even after using the exact user name and password is after performance of the following steps:
·Change the actual or target location of the My Document folder to a different folder before installing the Windows XP Professional
·Format the primary partition
·Install Windows XP Professional
To resolve the problem discussed in the preceding text, you have to turn off Simple File Sharing and avail the ownership of the folder by performing the following procedures:
·Turn off the Simple File Sharing in the following manner
·click 'Start' and then click 'My Computer'
·Select 'Tool' menu and click 'Folder Option and then 'View' tab
·Select 'Advanced Setting', clear the 'Use simple file sharing (Recommended)' check box and then click 'OK'
·Right click on the inaccessible folder and select 'Properties'
·Click the 'Security' tab and then click 'OK'
·Click on 'Advanced' and then click 'Owner' tab
·Select the 'Name' list and click on your user name
·Select 'Replace owner on sub containers and objects' check box
·Click 'OK'
·You would receive the message that reads:
1“You do not have permission to read the contents of directory Folder. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?”
·All permissions will be replaced if you press Yes.”
·Click 'Yes'
·Click 'OK'
·Apply for the permission and security settings of the folder and its content

Even after you perform the above described procedures, you may be unable to recover from the problem. In such situation, you need Windows data recovery software, successfully recovers the data from the inaccessible folder. With this software all the recoverable files can be previewed.
