We all have our pet-peeves when it comes to websites; so I thought I would offer my two cents to help those offenders right there wrongs.  “Please send me your list of website pet-peeves.”

1. Too Old School

We met with a client the other day who wanted a big SPLASH Page with just his logo as the focal point of the page.  Oh boy!  No can do.  They call it a splash page because it got thrown overboard several years ago…Splash!

2. Missing Contact Information

People would like to call you but, you don’t have a phone number on your website!  Are you in the witness protection program?   I know we’re all high tech these days, but c’mon, put a phone number and an address on your site.

3. Sound Effects

I like music as much as the next guy however, when I get blindsided with music from your site blaring because my speakers are cranked on high, not so much.  Some visitors to your site are at work in their cubicle, they don’t want the whole office to hear that they’re screwing around on the internet.  Give people an option to turn on music or video.

4. Browser incompatibility

Rarely ever do I use Internet Explorer, unless you haven’t tested your site on other browsers like Google Chrome, Opera or Firefox.  Do your business a favor and make sure your website is compatible with the most popular browsers, because unless I really, really need something from your site I’m leaving.

5. Hyperlinks aren’t hyperlinks

It drives me crazy when I land on a site and what look like they should be hyperlinks aren’t hyperlinks.  You come across sites where there are link lookalike’s right in the middle of the page, they are blue and underlined, but yet they go nowhere.  Pictures that look like they will take you to where you want to go…click! Nope, not a hyperlink.  Please be generous with your links.
