HYPERCONVERGED INFRASTRUCTURE (HCI) – STRATEGY FOR SIMPLIFIED IT

Datacenters with Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI)

The growing demands of enterprise applications and the fast pace of modern business are threatening to put legacy IT design — with its separate storage, storage networks and servers — at risk of failure. Hyper-convergence is a way to bring together vital Infrastructure functions, usually in one box: server, storage and networking, managed with software and often with automated processes. Hyperconverged products typically rely on modular plug-and-play hardware combined with local storage using vSAN, instead of a storage area network (SAN).

The Big Picture – Traditional vs Converged vs Hyperconverged Infrastructure

Cisco Hyperconverged Infrastructure

Cisco Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) is a system engineered with compute, network, storage, and virtualization in a single platform, utilizing a single point of management. HCI creates a simplified, distributed computing platform that is fully integrated and interoperable with the entire data center.

Architecture

HyperFlex is engineered on the Cisco UCS platform. It is part of a datacenter architecture that supports traditional, converged, and hyperconverged systems with common policies and infrastructure management.

Bridge to next-generation IT: HyperFlex is built on an API-driven architecture for the interoperability required by DevOps-style IT. It integrates with orchestration toolsets and cloud services.

Ready for emerging applications: The HX Data Platform is designed to support multiple hypervisors, containers, and bare metal to power existing and new cloud-native workloads.

Continuous innovation: HyperFlex will continue to expand the boundaries of hyperconverged infrastructure, drawing from innovation in Cisco UCS and ACI.

Software

Cisco HyperFlex Systems run on HyperFlex HX Data Platform Software, version 2.6. The software supports VMware vSphere, versions 6.0 and 6.5.

Analysts are expecting Hyperconverged Infrastructure to continue to take off in a big way. Gartner, for instance, expects that the market will be worth nearly $5 billion by 2019.
