Marron earns Republican nod to fill out term in District 104

DANVILLE (Heartland Newsfeed) — Republican officials in Champaign and Vermilion counties chose a successor to state Rep. Chad Hays (R-Catlin), who opted to leave office this fall.

Officials met Wednesday and unanimously named Mike Marron as Hays’ replacement in House District 104 until the end of the term in January.

Marron, who is Vermilion County Board Chairman, cites that there is no unfair advantage in his appointment, stating that he’ll already be representing the district in January.

Facing off against Democrat Cindy Cunningham in November’s general election, Marron secured the Republican nomination in the March 20 primary.

He will be sworn in as state representative September 7. His appointed replacement for breplacement for County Board chairman being selected in the upcoming weeks.

Hays isn’t seeking re-election due to his support of the 2017 tax hikes, is leaving the Illinois General Assembly prior to the end of his term to take a private-sector job as executive director of Crosspoint Human Services.
