Attempt to malign protest, says Lokendra Singh Kalvi

JAIPUR: Lokendra Singh Kalvi, founder patron of the Shri Rajput Karni Sena, on Friday demanded setting up a high powered committee to investigate the death at Nahargarh fort.

“This is a deliberate attempt to malign our ongoing Protest against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film ‘Padmavati’. It’s a conspiracy to dilute our cause,” he said.

On Friday morning, 40-year-old Chetan Kumar Saini was found hanging from the wall of the fort. Inflammatory graffiti related to ‘Padmavati’ issue was found scribbled on the walls and pathways where the incident happened. Messages scribbled on the fort walls repeatedly referred to effigies being hanged from the fort.

Kalvi made it clear that Saini’s death had nothing to do with the protest against ‘Padmavati’ and the distortion of history by filmmaker Bhansali.

Kalvi and the Karni Sena are spearheading the protest against the film and have been demanding a complete ban on it.

“If the messages scribbled on the stones are read carefully, any sane person will laugh at allegations that we are involved. The language and names used clearly show that it is part of a larger conspiracy against us,” Kalvi said.

He questioned the name found scribbled on the stones that read ‘Chetan Tantrik’, and claimed that it was a deliberate ploy to refer to Chetan Rawal, the sorcerer in the court of Rawal Ratan Singh, whom the king had banished for the use of black magic. The character is mentioned in Malik Mohammad Jayasi’s epic poem ‘Padmavat’.

“The use of name ‘Chetan Tantrik’ and other inflammatory references are meant to divert the attention and to dilute the cause we are fighting for. Deliberate attempts have been made to give our protest a communal colour and I strongly disapprove of it,” he said.

Irrespective of the case being a murder or a suicide, the death has nothing to do with the ‘Padmavati’ issue, he said.

“Police are also investigating the matter as a suicide. Even circumstantial evidences indicate that. Every doubt will get cleared in a couple of days,” Kalvi added.
