NEW DELHI: Rains today drenched several parts of the country, including Delhi, while a cloudburst triggered flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir in which six persons perished.

The flood situation in Assam improved marginally although over two lakh people were still affected across 13 districts of the state.

Flash floods wreaked havoc in Thathri town of Doda district of J&K, inundating vast areas along the Batote- Kishtwar National Highway and washing away half a dozen houses.

Six persons were killed in the flash floods, police officials said.

While 11 people were rescued from the debris, many others are feared trapped and the toll is likely to rise, they said.

Incessant rains in some districts of Saurasthra in Gujarat have led to a flood-like situation in the region, leaving three persons dead, the state government said today.

The highest Rainfall of 350 mm in the last 24 hours was recorded in Chotila of Surendranagar district. According to Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, the weather department has given a warning of heavy rains for the next 48 and state administration has been asked to remain alert.

In West Bengal, Kolkata, which has been receiving spells of rain since last night, registered 54.9 mm rainfall till 8.30 AM this morning.

Other places in south Bengal that received considerable amount of rainfall during the same period included Digha (41 mm) and Diamond Harbour (55 mm).

Following a dry spell for the last one week, the monsoon has become active again in Gangetic West Bengal and this will lead to wet weather for the next two to three days, weather officials said.

Telangana continued to receive good rainfall with Kothagudem in Khammam district and several other places getting five cm of downpour.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places over Telangana during the next five days.

The heavey rainfall during last few days in Hyderabad and some other places affected normal life as low-lying areas were inundated at some places.

Rivulets and other water bodies were in spate due to the rainfall, while water-logging was reported in the state capital.

In Assam, the Dhansiri river at Golaghat town and Numaligarh in Golaghat, and Kushiyara river at Karimganj town are flowing above the danger mark.

Bihar received light to moderate rainfall at many places. State capital Patna, which witnessed generally cloudy sky, registered 4.5 mm rainfall.

Bhagalpur received 3 mm, Purnea got 1.6 mm, while Gaya received trace.

Purnea recorded a maximum temperature of 33.7 Degrees Celsius, followed by Bhagalpur (33.5), Patna (32.9) and Gaya (32.7)

Rains at several places brought relief to the people in Punjab and Haryana as the maximum temperature dropped slightly today.

Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius.

Heavy rains lashed Delhi keeping humidity level high during the day even as the mercury settled within normal levels.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 34.4 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, while the minimum temperature settled at 25.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.

The humidity levels oscillated between 98 and 67 per cent.

25.8 mm rainfall was received till 11 AM and 2.7 mm rain was recorded during the day, weather officials said.

Rainfall continued in parts of Rajasthan with some places recording heavy downpour.

Pindwara (Sirohi) recorded 7 cm rain, Pachpahar (Jhalawar), Mangrol (Baran) and Ramganjmandi (Kota) recorded 4 cm each, while many areas received below 5 cm rains since yesterday.

Pilani, Ajmer, Bikaner and Jaipur also recorded 48.1, 22, 10 and 0.8 mm rains, respectively, from morning till evening today.
