Samsung has announced the second generation Chromebook Plus. The latest update to the Chromebook Plus heralds with a new processor and a camera upgrade. Designwise the new Samsung Chromebook Plus resembles its predecessor. The laptop can be used in multiple modes like tablet modes and the laptop mode. Adding to that it also comes with a stylus that doesn’t need to be charged.

The biggest change lies under the hood. Samsung has switched from the ARM processor on the previous model to the Intel processor (Intel Celeron 3965Y) on the latest Chromebook Plus. In order to make sure that the Chromebook supports all the Android apps on the Chrome OS, Samsung has opted for an Intel chip that is recommended by Google themselves. Last year Samsung offered an ARM-based Chromebook and a higher variant Chromebook Pro variant which was powered by Intel Core processor. However, it is not clear whether or not Samsung will release a Pro version for the Chromebook Plus.

Samsung has now added a 13-Megapixel rear camera alongside the 1-Megapixel front camera that can be used for video calling and other purposes. The 12.2-inch Display supports FHD resolution. The best part is that the two USB Port-C will support output to 4K external displays. Samsung claims that the Chromebook Plus is capable of offering a battery backup of 8-hours on a single charge.

On the memory front, the Samsung Chromebook Plus offers 4GB RAM, 32GB of inbuilt storage alongside a microSD card slot that can accommodate up to 400GB of additional memory. Minor ergonomic changes include curved keyboard keys, spill-proof keyboard, and chamfered edges. Connectivity options on the laptop include 2xUSB Type-C, 1XUSB 3.0, microSD card reader and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Chromebook Plus will be priced at $499 and will be available at Best Buy starting 24th of June.
