T-Mobile Launches DIGITS, a Service That Lets you Use Same Mobile Number on Multiple Devices

T-Mobile has launched Digits, a multi-Number, multi-device service that would allow subscribers to use the same number across multiple devices. The DIGITS service had been launched in December last year and until now T-Mobile was beta testing the same. The new service will allow users to have two different lines one for business and other for personal. DIGITS service is currently $10/month/line (free for OnePlus subscribers) and will be available for activation for all T-Mobile customers by the end of this month.

As of now, most of us are used to carrying a secondary phone or maybe a smartphone with dual SIM slots. Juggling the second phone is a herculean task while managing two different numbers is not seamless either. Other VOIPs have already been rendering similar service but this is the first time it has been bundled with the traditional cellular network.

DIGITS will let you connect several numbers to a single device and it will also allow other devices that are connected to the internet use the same. What this means is that the call from your smartphone can be relayed to your tablet, computer and even smartwatches. Despite using other devices for making calls the mobile number will remain the same. T-Mobile is expecting a positive response from the enterprises as they will be able to assign the same number after the employee leaves the company. The best part is that along with the calls the call log and voicemails will also be accessible on any device that is running Android Lollipop 5.0, iOS 9 or above and any PC with Chrome or Firefox (Mac or Windows).

Here is an interesting use case, in case you have a landline number, you can simply link it to all the phones in your household and every time the DIGITS number rings, one can take a call from any device – cord cutters delight indeed! If you are an existing T-Mobile customer you need to pay $10/month for the first Digit line and for One Plus customers it will be free for a limited line. That being said data that is shared on the same line will be throttled to 512Kbps.
