Ever since Dustin Johnson became the top golfer in the world, he has been on an incredible hot streak. And that streak continued this past weekend with his win at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play Tournament.
This win really allowed Johnson to flex his muscle on the PGA TOUR, as he blasted some former records. For one, he became the first player in the PGA TOUR history to win four straight World Golf Championship events, taking the match play title, along with the Mexico Championship, Bridgestone Invitational, and HSBC Championships Tournament.
Along with making history with the victory, Johnson also left his mark on the Dell Technologies Match Play Tournament itself. Johnson became only the second player to never trail during the event, joining Luke Donald who did the same in 2001. Further, Johnson set a record by leading 94% of the holes that he played, beating Donald’s previous record of 91%.

While the stats will show that Johnson dominated the tournament, he did have a bit of a scare from rookie Jon Rahm. With Johnson up by four with only six holes remaining, Rahm put on a late charge that got him within one hole of Johnson heading into the 17th hole. Unfortunately for Rahm, his late rally wasn’t enough as Johnson held him off in the end.
While he remained calm and collected throughout the duration of the tournament, Johnson had to admit that it was a tiring day for him. “That was a tough day, a long day,” Johnson said. “I’m proud of the way I played, the way I hung in there.”

With the hot streak that he has been on, Johnson is the odds-on favorite to win the Masters in two weeks and it will be interesting to see if he can live up to those expectations at Augusta.
