Taylor defeats Craigie to take Under 23's Crown
Yesterday saw the first playing of the Under 23's Orkney Open Singles pool tournament. An initial entry of 14 players was trimmed down slightly on the day with a couple of players unable to make it but the remaining players battled it out on the 2 tables at the Orkney Golf Club.
With some very good pool being played throughout the day the Semi Finals produced two dominant displays from victors Kyran 'Kiwi' Taylor and youngster Steven Craigie, beating Ryan Gillespie and Alan Clouston 4-1 and 4-0 respectively.
The final was a brilliant spectacle for those involved and for those watching. Steven took an early 2-0 lead but the more experienced Kyran turned things around to lead 4-3 in the first to 5 frames match. Steven wasn't in the mood for giving up and won the 8th frame to level up the match at 4-4 and force a decider. In one of those matches where both players deserved to win it was Kyran who potted the final black to clinch the frame and the title.
Congratulations to Kyran, commiserations to Steven, we will no doubt be seeing the pair of you competing for titles for many years to come. Last word of thanks goes to the Orkney Golf Club for hosting this Orkney Pool Association event.
