I Like to Fix Things

Ever since I can remember, I’ve enjoyed fixing things. Something about repairing something back to its original state makes me feel accomplished. Hence why I always need a project… to keep my mind occupied.

However, my favorite thing to fix is people.

I’m not going to lie, it can be a problem because I’ll subconsciously befriend the wrong people of the world at times. Not that there’s a right and a wrong but you get what I mean. Wrong for me.

The thing about these friendships is that I have no idea that the person has some underlying secret in the beginning. And apparently, my face is so fuckin’ friendly that people will tell me anything.

And then I’ll spiral into their emotions. Oh yeah, I tend to have a hard time separating my emotions from other’s. When my friend is go through something, I do too.

I’m slowly learning to distance those two things but it’s hard when I’m the fixer. If someone needs a pick-me-up, they’ll reach out to me and I’ll always Listen. (While simultaneously judging them. It’s a free country, I’ll think what I want!)

I guess what draws people towards me is that I can usually fix their problem if they’re willing to listen.

Some people will get offended; but if that’s the case, you shouldn’t ask. I won’t sugar coat it. If you need that, you should probably go ask the tooth fairy.

When it comes down to it, most people know the answer. They want you to agree with whatever version of their Solution they concocted, but maybe they need to start listening to themselves. The minute you feel anxiety or just gross about a decision you made, do the opposite.

If you didn’t stick up for yourself or your friend, do it! If you continuously hang out with people who put you down, say I’m done with this shit. Bye Felicia.

And if you don’t like your life, put on your big girl pants and fix it. Nobody has a magic solution for you.
