Celebrities in Kenya who were former Street Children

Some individuals have come a long way in their journey to success. The following is a list of celebrities in  Kenya who were former street children and later made it in life.

Bonoko

Bonoko the Ghetto Radio Presenter, whose real name is James Kangethe Kimani gained instant fame after being a witness of an extra-jurisdiction murder .His prowess in speaking sheng is widely known due to living for years as a street urchin. 

He went to live in the streets after his parents had frequent quarrels. The video of him giving the account of what happened at the scene became viral and ended up been used by DJ’s and artists in their contents. 

His popularity grew massively, and he ended up getting a job as a radio presenter at Ghetto Radio and from then his life got a new twist.

Papa Dennis
The sensational Gospel Singer was once a street child. Dennis Mwangi who is popularly known as Papa Dennis has passed through hardships in life after his parent died and left him with the responsibly for taking care of the two children. 

Papa Dennis had to go to the streets and find food for his siblings, as he was now the only breadwinner of the family. After staying in the streets for a while, he later stated manual jobs. 

Papa Dennis was then helped by Sadat Muhindi who is the CEO of the Maliza Umaskini Foundation that assists children that are needy, and from then his life changed.Ringtone
The flamboyant gospel singer has spent many years on the street, feeding in bins. His mother allegedly dumped and placed at the doorstep of a club in Nairobi, Tom Mboya Street after giving birth to him. 

He was rescued and his uncle took him to the village to stay with his grandmother. After some years his grandmother passed away, and this resulted in the singer going to the streets as his family rejected him. On the street a Good Samaritan who took him, and from there, his story changed.Bahati
Bahati grew up in the ABC Orphanage in Mathare Slums after his mother died. He lived in the orphanage for a long time, until he realised his father died when he was in class eight. 

His stepbrother later took him and after a hectic search for his family members, he met his grandfather. He was inspired to work hard, and that’s when he started singing. He is now one of the promising gospel artists in Kenya.

Guardian angel
Audiphaxad Peter famously known as the guardian angel is gospel singer who stayed in the streets for a while. Having been brought up by a singer mother, life was not any more comfortable. 

Audiphaxad became a street urchin and was later jailed in the central police station. In prison, he chose to seek God. He was taken to Ahadi Children's Home, where he stayed for five years. He then discovered he had a talent in music and from there the rest became history.
