How I Survived A Weekend Alone With A Toddler

My Wife went out of town a couple of weeks ago and left me with our youngest, he’s 18 months. Being left alone with a toddler may not be a big deal if like my wife you think your day out in advance but I’m not my wife. I had nothing on the docket. My strategy, if you want to call it that, was one of hope and prayer. Prayer is important with kids. On a normal day, little prayers help parents stay centered and keep us from telling our kids off or worse, in our most trying moments, just leaving them somewhere. When I’m in the trenches with my wife and we’re facing the day to day parenting challenges together prayer is nice to have. But when she’s gone and I’m left alone deep in the foxhole surrounded by screaming, incessant screaming, supplication is lifeblood. During those 48 hours of unsupported parenting, my prayers were that God keeps the boy in good health free from bruises and bumps and covered in His perfect protection. The boy is a thrill seeker and loves climbing as most toddlers do. He’s relentless in his pursuits to conquer all surfaces over four feet tall...
