4 Tips for Preparing Your Pool For Autumn

When leaves turn a lovely shade of red, orange, yellow, magenta, and all the beautiful colors associated with Fall, then you know that swimming season is over. The air becomes cooler and rains are more likely to happen. Although the Pool won’t be in use this season, it is still highly recommended to prepare it for Fall and the winter season that comes after that. Here are basic things you need to do to make sure that your next summer is guaranteed to be an enjoyable one.

Free the Pool of Dirt and Debris

It is always proper to clean or wash something before putting it into storage. Same goes with a pool. If you Cover it up with all those floating leaves, branches, algae, and whatever that found its way to the pool water, you might as well be setting yourself up for a more difficult cleaning project when summer comes. So, make sure that it gets settled now. If you think that dirt and bacteria could still make its way in and multiply, there are winterizing pool chemicals that can control its growth. As for the pool deck, make sure that it is in good shape, too. Any damage on its surface could allow dirt, rain, and snow to penetrate the slab. Because concrete is very porous, it could cause damage that even a pool deck repair can’t fix. Pool deck overlays and coatings can immediately cover up damage and protect the slab underneath from damaging elements.

Water Level and pH Should be Just Right

Before a Pool Cover is put in place, make sure that the water level is just right. This will depend on a lot of factors, such as pool lining material, pool finish, what type of cover you are using, and the like. If you are unsure, it is highly recommended that you consult with a local pool expert. Another thing that should be checked is the water’s pH level. This will involve checking the levels of calcium and chlorine in the water. An expert can also help you with this.

Inspect the Filtration System Before Shutting it Down

Before shutting down the filtration system, give it a thorough checkup. Blow out any water inside the lines, check every part, making sure that each one is in good working condition. If one part needs to be replaced, replace it before Fall season sets in. By keeping it in excellent condition prior to shutting it down, you can make sure that when it needs to be started back up again, it will work perfectly.

Place a Cover on the Pool

Some people do not feel like a pool cover is necessary, but it is. It keeps dirt, debris, and snow away from the pool water. It also helps make the area safe for kids and pets. There are many types of covers. Consult a pool cover expert to find the most suitable one for you and your swimming pool.
