OUTDOOR LIVING THE SCANDINAVIAN WAY

Tags: gtgt outdoor

Summer is here, and if there is something us Scandinavians are good at it is making the most of Outdoor living during this period. It does not matter if it is raining or the sun is shining, a true Scandinavian will spend quality time outside in the summer no matter what.

Here is my selection of Scandinavian design to make your outside area looking great and ready for hygge times, whether that is a terrace, balcony or garden. Find more information and all the links to these items below:

>> 1 The popular Pappelina plastic rugs are made in Dalarna, Sweden woven on a traditional loom using wooden shuttles. It is a very practical and easy-to-care-for rug, perfect for outdoor spaces. Available in a large range of colours and patterns.

>> 2 This ‘By Your Side’ table from Skagerak is a smart and lightweight aluminum table , easy to take with you. A good choice next to your bed or couch but also easy to use outside as thin grooves are placed in each side of the tray making it easy for rainwater to access.

>> 3 The elegant ‘Vivero’ watering can from AYTM in solid brass or stainless steel is a real eye-catching beauty. The simple shape, polished surface and unique handle is what makes this watering can one that will not be hidden away in a cabinet. Use it as a different flowerpot or for watering your flowers, and when not in use Vivero is perfect as an accessory with all its beauty.

>> 4 Create a cozy environment on your terrace or balcony with outdoor ‘Sötholmen’ cushions from IKEA. The inner cushion is protected against moisture since the cover has a water-repellent lining, while the colour stays fresh for longer as the fabric is fade resistant.

>> 5 Invite your guests to cook their own food or tapas with this pretty table grill from Eva Solo. Either at the table, on the beach or in the park. This innovative grill is made of fireproof porcelain with a practical handle which makes it easy to carry around.

>> 6 The Lillagunga Classic is a reinvented version of the wooden swing. It is a safe, durable and stylish product suited for children from three to fourteen years of age. The oak model suits for indoor and outdoor usage.

>> 7 Let the Erik Magnussen copper oil lamp from Stelton add light and warmth to cozy moments outdoors. The clear glass offers a delightful view of the flame, creating atmosphere behind the glass while adding a touch of warmth.

>> 8 With its wide, welcoming seat and low height, the Hee Lounge chair from HAY has a laid-back vibe. Although the elemental design is manifested in more relaxed proportions, it still retains light, understated aesthetics and functional properties. Stackable and weather-proof, the chair can be used in outdoor surroundings, as well as inside restaurants, bars and in a home environment.

>> 9 Keep the birds happy with this charming bird house drop dot from Swedish Paradisverkstaden. It is like a piece of art for your garden and the birds are going to love their new luxury home! The birdhouse is handmade in ceramic and has a beautiful pattern with dots all over.

>> 10 Encouraging a simpler way of life by sparking a newfound appreciation for the elements, the Cast Tea Heater from Menu uses fire to heat your brew, re-contextualising the traditional tea-making process with its fuss-free heating method.

>> 11 The ‘To Go Click’ cup from Stelton has a state-of-the-art smart click function that lets you open and closes it easily. Enjoy hot or cold drinks without spills when you are on the move. Perfect for your favorite drink on the terrace or while hiking.

>> 12 Bring some snacks with you outdoors in this handy, little snackbox from Design Letters.

>> 13 Keep warm on chilly evenings spent on the terrace with this ‘Frogner’ blanket from Røros Tweed. This collection of thin throws in Norwegian lambswool designed by Anderssen & Voll comes in four colours: Classic black and white, heather, green and burgundy. The fabric of the throw has an airy volume – it keeps you warm even if its very lightweight.

>> 14 Sprinkles to showers. The Siirtolapuutarha umbrella from Marimekko is always handy to have nearby incase of rain. Manually pop it into action when the raindrops fall, and tuck it away in its matching case when the sun emerges.

>> 15 The idea behind the ‘Carrie’ LED lamp from Menu is to honor hygge in the context of modern living. Designed by Norm Architects, it is lightweight and portable with a USB charger. Perfectly sized for picnicking in the park, festival-going or moonlit walks on the beach.

>> 16 If you need more comfy seating, the ‘Divine’ outdoor footstool by Cane-line is ideal for outdoor and indoor use and can easily be cleaned if needed. It is a hand-made product in a fabric created by crochet technique and has multiple functions – can be used as an extra seat for guests, or as a decorative piece of furniture.

>> 17 When we do get sun, this ‘Fuori’ sunbed by Skagerak is a great way to unwind. The collection is a mix of luxury and institutionalism in a harmonious approach. The powder coated aluminium makes the sunbed light and architectonic in its structure, carried out by round profiles and clean lines.
