The Tell-Tale Signs You Need To Replace Your Mattress

The right Mattress for you, regardless of its price or brand name, can give you a restful, ache-free, and healthy sleep each night. On the contrary, an old mattress or one that doesn’t fit your sleep requirements can make you lose the snooze.

To determine when you should replace your mattress, here are tell-tale signs to look out for:

Allergic reactions

As mattresses age, they can be a host of icky things that can lead to allergic reactions. These allergens and irritants include dead skin, dust and dust mites, mold, and sweat. Even if your sheets are regularly washed, over time, this can happen in your mattress.

So, if you notice yourself having allergic reactions when you get close to your bed or if you’re stuffed up in the morning, it may be time to assess your mattress situation.

Mattress age

Aside from accumulating different irritants, over time, mattresses lose their mint condition. As mattresses age, they lose their ability to support the body, provide comfort, and isolate movement. That’s why it’s recommended to replace a mattress after eight to ten years.

Lingering smell

When a mattress ages, it also gets this damp and unpleasant smell to it. Because of a mattress’s porous foam padding or fabric covering, it is susceptible to absorbing sweat and body odor as you sleep, kitchen and cooking smells when the bedroom door is open, etc.

If you’ve done enough to deodorize and clean your mattress and something still smells off and damp, it’s about time to toss it and find a brand new, fresh-smelling mattress.

A lump or two

Over time and use, the padding inside a mattress can stiffen, tear, and shift around. When lumps happen, the uneven density can lead to discomfort and poor support. Though lumps are often found in lower-quality mattresses, they can happen with aged expensive ones.

Severe sagging

Another obvious and visible sign that your mattress needs a replacement is severe sagging. With age or use, the components in a mattress break down, whether it be memory foam, spring, or other materials. Because of this craters start to form in the middle of the bed.

Minor sags of 1 to 2 inches shouldn’t be ignored as well. Craters and minor sags can mean lack of support for the major pressure points and most vulnerable parts of the body.

Pain & discomfort

The time spent in bed should lead to refreshed mornings. If you wake up feeling beat up or with aches and pains, chances are your mattress needs to go. When a mattress doesn’t match your needs or when it gets worn down, it often leads to pain and discomfort.

Trouble sleeping

Stress and Poor Bedtime Habits can make it hard for you to sleep at night. But, if you’re frequently tossing and turning into the ungodly hours adjusting your sleep position, chances are your mattress is to blame as it no longer provides enough comfort and support.

If your mattress is generally comfortable and not conducive to a restful sleep even though you’ve changed your poor bedtime habits, it’s time to consider getting a new one.

Ticked of most of these signs? It’s time to replace your mattress with a better one immediately.
