How to Clean Truck Tonneau Covers

Like shade sails, the secret to extending the lifespan of your Truck Tonneau Covers is regular cleaning and proper maintenance. Most truck tonneau covers are made of vinyl, leather or other soft, flexible material.

Inspection

To preserve both form and function of your tonneau covers, it is important that you inspect it from time to time for wear outs, stubborn debris and looseness in its construction. Take time to check the mounting hardware and make sure all the clamps and bolts are securely fastened.

It is also important that you take time to lubricate your locks every now and then using a quality silicone or Teflon spray. You can use a spray can with allows you to insert a plastic tube. In addition, you also need to check the maintenance guidelines provided by your truck tonneau covers manufacturer.

Truck Tonneau Covers Cleaning

Clean your cover and vehicle in a well-shaded area, such as in an open garage or under a tree. Start by washing your cover with cool, clean water and some mild soap. Use the first flood of water to remove any surface grit that may have accumulated on the surface instead of wiping it away to avoid unnecessary scratches.

Use a hose to rinse the cover and effectively remove all traces of soap. Use a sponge to wipe off excess water. Avoid using harsh detergents and strong cleaners on your truck tonneau covers. These products are often loaded with harmful chemicals that can damage your cover.

If your tonneau covers are made of vinyl, make sure to use a quality vinyl cleaner, which you can easily purchase from an auto shop. Choose an all-cotton towel to apply the cleaning solution and follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer. Never use rough abrasive cleaning pads that may scratch the surface of your tonneau cover. This may produce pores that will allow dirt or unwanted particles to stick to the surface.
