Loft Conversion Ideas – 19 Creative Ways to Redesign Your Loft!

Well, ones that are properly designed and kitted out, that is.

Loft conversions can either turn into a bottomless pit to throw your money into, or if planned right, they can become a safe haven from all the madness around you. As a bonus, they can add another room to your property, one that is spacious and full of character.

When writing this post, I came across Houzz, which is an absolutely magnificent site… a goldmine of decor ideas that you can seek inspiration from, and access to designers that you can follow & interact with.

I handpicked some gorgeous loft conversion ideas to inspire you from the site, so that you can design one that works for you… There is something about each and every loft that I love and not all designs will gel together, but you might just love one and run with it…. and that is my aim!

ALL WHITE ERRYTHING + A READING NOOK = WOW

There are few things that get my decor buds tingling, OK I lied, there are a lot of things that get my creative side buzzing…and the sheer simplicity of this room coupled with the ingenious use of space is up there with the best of them. I’m in love with the nook above the bed. It could be used in so many ways. A walk in (or climb in) wardrobe. A reading nook. A mini play area. A great twist on a bunk bed. The possibilities are e n d l e s s. Oh, and I love those striped cushions too!

BEST HOME OFFICE DESIGN EVER.

I am always on the hunt for inspiring, creative spaces. Somewhere to escape from everything else and just get to work. No distractions, no frills, no clustered furniture. This. Is. It. I like the fact that it is not cluttered. I love all the space in the room. To be creative, I need to have physical space in the room… is it just me? I also love the design of the chaise lounge chair… so much in fact that I went out and bought a similar one in tan for my home office! If you have a loft and means to convert it, do this STAT.

BEST SKY LIGHT PLACEMENT EVER!

I am in love with the windows. The sheer view from these windows would be amazing both in the day and night. The simplistic setting of the play room is adding to its charm and the only alteration I would make is to make the railings floor to ceiling to prevent any accidents. The white furniture, walls and ceiling contrast perfectly with the bold splashes of colour on the rug and the teepee tent. LOVE.

BEDS NESTLED INTO AN ALCOVE ON GORGEOUS WOOD FLOORING

The wood chest & flooring gives this loft an endearing feel with a charming alcove to nestle the two single beds in (could easily be a king sized bed). White storage unit is practical & modern, and the lime green rug completes the clean, functional design of this room.

THE LARGE BAY AREA & WINDOW SEAT MAKE THIS A DREAM HIDEAWAY

…for children. Or for adults like me! I remember spending hours tucked into my comforter reading one book after another. The whole idea of this room appeals to me. The bay with the bed, storage and doll house is so quaint! The simple window seat complements this room perfectly,,, a child would love this!

THE LONG DINING TABLE WITH THE PADDED BENCH = I’M SOLD!

This entire apartment is a loft conversion in an industrial building. Open plan, spacious, bright & with a surprisingly avante-garde but homely feel to it. Although the usual loft conversion wont be like this, I love how different this design is. In any case, you could have a table like this and use it as a desk?

OPEN PLAN BATH ROOM IN A LOFT CONVERSION

I love this concept because, well, how often do you see a clawfoot bathtub in a loft? A minimalistic design with a cutesy, round window? Its almost whimsical were it not for the contemporary touch that the white walls and ceiling give it. Novel idea… would love to curl up in the bathtub with a book and some scrumptious aromas!

BUILT IN WARDROBE + WINDOW SEAT = I’M IN!

The designer did an awesome job in making the most of the nooks in this loft to make storage space for a walk in wardrobe. Who doesn’t want a separate room for their clothes & accessories?! The window seat with the mounted TV is perfect for a little time to yourself and a nice touch to complete this room.

OPEN PLAN KITCHEN, DINING AREA & LIVING ROOM MAKE THIS LOFT THE ULTIMATE MAN CAVE

I love the colour scheme here. The brown, black and grey hues work particularly well with the white ceiling and flooring, showcasing the lofts simplistic, but classy feel. I adore how the leather couch is so stylish & functional. The kitchen area at the far end is a perfect fit, bumping this loft up in my favourites. Man cave? Lady Lair? Game Den? Yes, Yes and Yes to this Scandinavian design!

AMAZING NATURAL LIGHTING = LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

Many people suffer from seasonal affective disorder and depression. Natural light in abundance like in the loft below could be a game changer. Imagine waking up to beautiful, warm rays of sunshine flooding your room in the morning… Warning – You might just bounce out of bed! This is a workspace but I would incorporate the white and red into a bedroom design.

MIRRORED WARDROBES AND THE DECAL IS… ON… POINT.

I am a big fan of mirrored wardrobes in small or unusually shaped rooms. They increase depth and give the illusion of spaciousness. The decal on the wall with the skylight above is a beautiful, cost effective upgrade to an otherwise modest decor.

ROOF DESIGN ACCENTUATES THE FEATURE WALL.

This concept is simple, no fuss, and totally functional. I like it for its subtleness, but I would add a decal on the right wall to catapult the design into a majestic scene when the rays of light hit it. The glass staircase is modern & elegant, and adds to the understated vision of this loft.

GREY FEATURE WALL + BROWN LEATHER SOFAS = LUXURIOUS HOME OFFICE

If you are looking for a home office with a luxurious look and feel, then a design like this would probably exceed your expectations. The brown leather couches give this work space a lavish touch, and with the rays of light washing over them, you get a brilliant, bright work area. The long desk lining the wall affords more than enough space to work.

BLUE. IN WALL STORAGE. BAY WINDOW. I HEART IT.

The large window allowing sunlight to flood the room is always a plus. The star of the show, however, is the storage shelving design. It fits seamlessly with the room both conceptually and space-wise. Perfect idea for a boys bedroom or a playroom for the children.

SLANTED CEILING, STORAGE LINING THE WALL & FEATURE WALL… YES PLEASE.

This is a loft conversion found inside a castle, and its modern, no clutter, bright vision gels perfectly together. Due to the tilting ceiling, you might expect it difficult to incorporate storage, but the designer in this case accomplished it effortlessly.

COZY & FUNCTIONAL DESIGN

The size of this loft conversation makes it a perfect little nursery or a small child’s bedroom. The bookshelf lining the wall and the little cubby hole above it is charming but practical and the window placement would keep the room nice and bright, giving a small room the illusion of being spacious!

GLASS ENCLOSURE FOR STAIRS + HUGE WINDOW + DISTRESSED FLOORING… I’M FEELING THIS!

Everything about this works… the rich browns with the pastel blues and greys.. the platform bed base alongside the contemporary blue couch… The glass panels give the whole room a updated, modern feel. The seating area at the far end completes the room, making it ideal for an extra bedroom or a guest room (be warned, you might start getting regular visitors!).

BLACK, WHITE & GREY – SIMPLE + CLASSIC

You can’t really go wrong with black, white and grey combinations. At worst it looks classic and at best it looks modern & chic. If done right it can really bring a room together, and in the below loft conversion, its definitely on point. The only thing I would consider altering is the black feature wall. A mural with black, white, grey and an additional splash of colour (teal, deep yellow or rainforest green) would make this room POP.

A NOVEL LOFT CONVERSION IDEA – SECOND LIVING ROOM WITH A BOHEMIAN FEEL

Warm colours, cushions with block colour tones, simplistic white couch and a contemporary low table… This loft conversion really gives off a subtle bohemian vibe, and the potential for bright light will really set this room alight! Call it a second living room, a chill pad or even a studio style bedroom… this definitely works, and works well!
