The holidays are upon us, Christmas is just around the corner, and it’s the most wonderful time of the year especially in DFW!

If you’re new to the area, then you are definitely in for a treat because there are so many festive Christmas activities in DFW and the surrounding areas.

From carriage rides to light shows and so much more, there’s something for everyone both young and old.

So, if you’re new here – or an oldie looking for something new – check out our list of the best Christmas activities in DFW for 2017.

1. 12 Days of Christmas at the Dallas Arboretum

If you’ve never been to the Dallas Arboretum, it’s definitely worth a visit – especially during the holidays. The Arboretum puts on a special exhibit called “12 Days of Christmas” which highlights different aspects from the famed Christmas carol. You’ll also be able to see a wide variety of plants, Christmas Lights, and beautiful 25-foot Victorian gazebos all decked out for Christmas.

2. Lone Star Christmas at the Gaylord Texan

The Gaylord Texan is a massive hotel/conference center right on Grapevine Lake in Grapevine, Texas and is definitely a destination to add to your holiday list. The entire place is decked out in lights and Christmas decorations – inside and out, making the place extremely festive. Plus, you can catch ICE! – an incredible display of ice sculptures all sculpted around a particular theme. There’s nothing like it!

3. Christmas Light Displays in Downtown Grapevine

Speaking of Grapevine, the downtown area of the city is actually known as the Christmas Capital of Texas – so, of course, it’s worth checking out. The entire downtown area is completely covered in Christmas lights, plus there are a ton of fun activities for kids of all ages. If you have time, be sure to check out the North Pole Express on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad.

4. Christmas at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra

If you’re looking for something classy and sophisticated to do this holiday season, why not check out Christmas at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra? The orchestra plays a variety of different concerts all set to different Christmas music and themes during the month of December so be sure to take a look at their schedule and find an event that works for your family.

5. The Nutcracker at Bass Performance Hall

Another great performance to check out this holiday season is The Nutcracker, performed at Bass Performance Hall. Go on a date night with your significant other or start a new tradition as a family because everyone can enjoy the classic tale of the Nutcracker. The performances do fill up though so be sure to check out Bass Performance Hall’s website to purchase tickets in advance.

6. Gift of Lights Display at Texas Motor Speedway

Looking to get out and see some Christmas lights with the family? The Texas Motor Speedway is a great place to start! The entire place is lit up with over 2 million LED lights and is set up so that you can drive through with your car to view the decorations from the comfort of your car. Simple and easy, especially for those with young children.

7. Christmas Lights at Six Flags Over Texas

The Christmas lights at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington would also make a great addition to your family’s holiday lights tour. The entire park is decked out for the season, plus you’ll find holiday performances, attractions, food, and fun activities for everyone in the family. Definitely worth checking out this holiday season.

8. Highland Park Christmas Lights Tour

Finally, if you’re looking for a more traditional light display, be sure to swing by the Highland Park area of Dallas. The area features many beautiful homes, all completely decked out for the season. You can drive through the area or if you’re looking for something a little different, you can catch a carriage ride through the neighborhood as well.
