CARD: Back to School with Primary Colors for SUOC 156

It is Back to School with Primary Colors as we start a new challenge with SUO! Challenge #156!  The new challenge is lots of fun and perfect for the Back to School season as we feature Primary Colors.  You are invited to play along as this challenge starts today and ends on September 9th @ 6 AM EST.

Back to School with Primary Colors

Since this card celebrates the start to Caleb’s school year, I wanted to showcase that this is the start of 1st Grade. So, why did I create this card?  A friend posted that she wrote notes to her kids on the first day of school and I loved the idea.  I decided a special card with a note to hold onto would be a wonderful way to commemorate and remember the start of each year along with the traditional back to school first day photo.

Primary Colors are so fun to use and a great way to go back to the basics which means this is the perfect challenge for the Back to School season.  Remember, the primary colors consist of Yellow, Blue and Red!  Primary Colors on a card create a bold statement.

The card I’ve created for the Primary Colors SUOC#156 challenge weaves in all three colors in a fun, back to school card.  School has officially started for my son as he enters 1st Grade and we are very excited.  Oh, the Places You Will Go is the perfect sentiment for helping establish a wonderful start to a new school year.

I have used a fun background stamp to set the tone with a solid, Night of Navy background layered against Real Red.  Then the world map from the Places You’ll Go Stamp Set features all three colors.  The Real Red pops beautifully against the Daffodil Delight.  The Number of Years Stamp Set with the coordinating Large Numbers Framelits is the perfect match for this card.

Tips, Tricks and Techniques with Sunny Girl Scraps:

  • Layering Stamped Images. Don’t be afraid to layer stamped images!  Use a lighter color ink for the background image then stamp the main image of a layer in a darker color.  For example, on this card, I stamped the Daffodil Delight Globe after first stamping off the ink to provide a lighter background.  Next, I stamped the sentiment using Real Red Classic Ink.
  • Fun Tip when Using Photopolymer Stamps. I love the Photopolymer stamp sets!  Did you know you can bend them to help create a curved stamped image?   The “grade” image is curved so I could easily punch it out with the Duet Banner Punch.
  • Background Stamps. Trying to set a certain tone on your card?  Background stamps go a long way in helping create a certain tone.  The Writing Notes Background Stamp helped set the perfect tone on back to school 1st Grade card.
  • Primary Colors. Red, Blue and Yellow are fun combinations.  Today’s card features Real Red, Night of Navy and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Up! classic ink as the sources for my Primary Color selections.
