Today my mom and I went to our first Knitting Class. The ladies at the Yarn shop had bamboo needles and some practice yarn out for us to use. My mom's yarn was blue, and mine was red. We practiced casting on two different ways, and they showed us how to hold the yarn so we have the right amount of tension. My mom picked a cotton/silk blend to use for her first scarf, and I chose an acrylic/wool combination. The yarn shop's air conditioner wasn't working, so they had fans blowing to try to cool the air.
If you take a knitting class, remember that you may not understand everything early on the first day. I know that I had difficulty thinking about how to hold my hands, needles, and yarn so that my stitches came out correctly. The movement can be rather awkward for your hands, especially when you first start, but I know that knitting will be easier and quicker for me with time.
Tomorrow I'll post any coupons or sales I see in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
