#ManiMonday: Half & Half Manicure with Essie DJ Play That Song and Butler Please

Do you ever have those days where you reach for a nail polish, and you just can't decide? No matter what you do, no matter how many times you stare at the bottles, you simply can't choose just one? Well, that's how I felt this week -- hence my Half & Half Manicure with Essie DJ Play That Song and Butler Please.

These nail polishes are two of my favorite colors in my entire collection of over 600 bottles. I've gone back to them time and time again because they're both so richly hued and totally arresting when worn on their own. But together? I think I've just created a combo that's better than peanut butter and jelly! (Okay, maybe not QUITE that good, because come on, PB&J is delicious. But it's pretty darn close.)

Essie DJ Play That Song is originally from the 2013 Neon Collection, which is one of my favorite collections that Essie ever did. It's a bright, vibrant purple -- totally perfect for tips and toes! It does dry a little matte, but definitely has a better formula than the original neons Essie created (if you remember Bermuda Shorts, you'll know what I'm talking about).

Essie Butler Please is originally from the Winter 2012 Collection. It's that bold, bright cobalt that just begs to be worn and noticed. I've owrn this color so many times over the years and it just never ceases to put a smile on my face. It also tends to dry a bit on the matte side, and the formula can be tricky, but two thin coats work perfectly.

As you can see, I decided to paint my nails half with one shade and half with the other. I did this for two reasons:

1) I originally was going to do a French manicure but I didn't really like how the colors sat together. I couldn't decide which should be the base and which should be the tip, but neither really worked well for me in that case.

2) I'm fairly limited when it comes to nail art, and even this was a bit of an experiment! I honestly didn't expect to get my lines so straight. I freehanded this design and thought it would come out WAY messier than it did -- so, apparently, my dexterity and balance are a bit better than I thought.

I really, REALLY love the way these colors look together and I'm so glad I decided to use them both. This manicure is definitely just the thing to perk up an already bright and sunny Monday!

As these are both older polishes, it's harder to find them for purchase these days, unless you go the eBay or random beauty seller route. But if you happen to get your hands on either or both, I highly recommend them!

What's on your nails right now? Let me know in the comments!
