Back to the celtic knotwork tree. Colour now applied with bog-standard crayons. I can't get on painting with acrylic, watercolour or ink on paper - or alcohol/water soluble felt pens. These are just cheap, no-frills crayons, but it's easy to layer up four or five shades so you get a nice depth of smooth(ish) colour.
I've been working on celtic dogs, birds and people too (I love the little beard pullers in manuscripts like the Book of Kells or Lindisfarne Gospels etc.)
I want my images to retain their hand-drawn quality - whatever else I do with them after they've been drawn. I think I prefer them in black & white, but most people prefer a bit of colour.
