The updated S-Class of the 2018 model year is not the only novelty that Mercedes-Benz is going to demonstrate at the motor show in Shanghai. One of the most anticipated cars of Stuttgart is the concept car Sedan A-Class, which gives the car world a glimpse into the potential future of not too expensive Mercedes models.
“Our Concept A Sedan shows, that the time of creases is over”, say Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler AG. “With its perfect proportions and a sensual treatment of surfaces with reduced lines, it is the next milestone of Sensual Purity and has the potential to introduce a new design era.”
The concept of A Sedan, as noted in the company, demonstrates a balanced, but an attractive approach to the compact segment of luxury. Short overhangs, especially at the rear, as well as the slim greenhouse that has been offset towards the rear are complemented by large wheel arches that accommodate 20-inch wheels.. Additional sedan characteristics are the relatively vertical C-pillar, larger side windows and the higher beltline. The headlights are also unique, sporting an interesting “grid” pattern on the inside. The pattern is coated with a special UV paint, and glows when exposed to the built-in UV light projector. The rear taillights are featuring a sharp arrow-like design on the inside.
This Mercedes A Sedan concept car has 4570 mm in length, 1870 mm in width and 1462 mm in height.
Mercedes does not mention anything about the potential engines or gearbox. But, according to previously announced information, the new A-Class sedan will have both front and optional full-wheel drive and will be offered in two wheelbase variants: the standard wheelbase version is expected to be sold in all markets except China, and China Will receive its own long-base version.
It is expected that the new Mercedes A-Class sedan production will be carried next year at three Mercedes plants: in Hungarian Kecskemet, at the joint venture Daimler and Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation in Beijing .
