Mercedes AMG Introduced The New GT Concept

By combining its current 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 and a rear-mounted electric motor, Mercedes gave a serious hint of expanding its model line and showed what the potential competitor of Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid would look like. After a few teasers, Mercedes-Benz switched from words to deeds: the company showed the long-awaited Mercedes Amg GT Concept at the car show that was launched today for the representatives of the media in Geneva. This car, while wearing “concept” prefix, has all the chances for mass production in the near future.

The sedan in the compartment body reminds of existing GT model line of in many aspects, but, it certainly, differs from the model line with the quantity of its doors. The aesthetics of the GT Concept causes a slight resemblance to the CLS model, perhaps due to the smooth “continuous” arc of the body, going from the windshield to the rear lights.

The new concept car features ultra-thin headlights and taillights. In addition, rear-view cameras replace the traditional side mirrors thus making the car more aerodynamic. There are active shutter panels in the grille and side intakes to direct cooling air to crucial points, and that Hot Red paintjob’s pretty spectacular, with a ‘special formulation’ that helps it to shimmer in the light like liquid metal. The concept features a centrally-mounted exhaust flanked by a carbon-fiber rear diffuser.

GT Concept combines a 4.0-liter turbo V8, which the company successfully uses on many existing Mercedes AMG cars, and a rear-mounted electric motor. This combination provides a total system capacity of 815 hp.

“This four-door coupe portends a further expansion of the Mercedes AMG GT family,” says the Mercedes press release. Germans do not name specific time frames, but, according to rumors, the serial version of the car can get the name GT4 and should go on sale already in 2018.
