Patriotic USA Cake

We’re over here dreaming of summertime, sitting by the pool, backyard BBQs, fireworks and the 4th of July. But those are just dreams, because reality is that we are freezing at soccer games and wishing it would warm up and that summer would come! This is Amber and Danetta from Fun-Squared and today we’re giving you a very fun way to celebrate those patriotic American holidays-whether it’s the 4th of July or Memorial Day or any other patriotic celebration, we’ve got a fun Patriotic USA Cake!

There’s just something about red, white and blue that makes us happy! And mix that with glitter and put it on a cake and you’ve got something awfully fun!

The cake looks fun as it is, but guess what? When you cut into it-it’s red, white and blue inside too!

Does it get any better?!

Patriotic Cake Tutorial:

So let’s talk about how to make this

Supplies Needed:

  • Red Velvet Cake Mix
  • White Cake Mix
  • Blue Food Coloring
  • Buttercream Frosting
  • Round Cake Pans
  • Shortening
  • Wooden USA Letters (from the craft store)
  • Glue or Decoupage
  • Red, White and Blue Glitter
  • Red, White and Blue Accents (from the craft store)
  • Skewer Sticks
  • Hot Glue

We started off by making our USA letters. We got wooden letters from the craft store and glittered them.

Use a paintbrush to spread the glue or decoupage on the top of your letters. Then sprinkle glitter on:

Then glue your letters to one of your skewer sticks:

To make your cake, prepare the red velvet cake mix as indicated on the box. You’ll then place it in a round cake pan. Make sure to add a thin layer of shortening to the pan and then a thin layer of flour it so that the cake pops out easily. Bake one round cake in red velvet.

Prepare the white cake mix as indicated. Separate into two bowls and add Blue Food Coloring to one. Shortening and flour your pans again and bake one layer of each of these as well.

When the cakes are baked and cooled, layer them on top of each other with frosting between each layer.

Then frost the outside, making it as smooth as you can. No worries though because your decorations will hide any flaws.

Add your letters on the skewers and then any accents you want.

We used ribbon and floral decor and just general patriotic decor.

Then enjoy!
