3 Ways To Help Get Your Teen’s Skin Camera-Ready

Before my two girls officially became teenagers, I heard mixed reviews about the teenage years. Some people cringed when they spoke about them, and others claimed the teenage years were their favorites. So far, I think having teenagers is awesome!

3 Ways To Help Your Teen Get Camera-Ready

Today’s teens are involved! They’re on school teams, in choir or band, and have a million activities that require a photo. Today’s teens are getting up close and personal on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. They’ve got school photos, dance photos, yearbook photos, and selfies. Today’s teen has to be “on.”

And while doing all of this, they are tackling hormone changes that cause some pretty annoying breakouts. This school year my two entrepreneur daughters Makayla (16 years old) and Bridges (13 years old) had some pretty big photo ops coming up and their skin breakouts were stressing them out! Here are three ways that helped them get camera-ready in time for back-to-school pictures and a business photo shoot.

1. Find the right treatment for their skin type.

Does your teen have oily or combination skin? Finding the right treatment for his or her skin type is important. Dr. Dhaval Bhanusali, a NYC-based dermatologist says that the main reason teens break out is due to hormones and increased oil production.

For teens with oily skin, Dr. Bhanusali (or Dr. B) recommends Clean & Clear® Acne Triple Clear Bubble Foam Cleanser because it is non-irritating. The bubbles make it fun to use and Acne Triple Clear treats acne by: 1) removing pot-clogging oil, 2) treating pimples while soothing skin, and 3) helping to prevent new acne breakouts.

Combination skin means your teen’s skin can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others (you’ve probably heard of the T-zone). For combination skin, Dr. B recommends Clean & Clear’s Deep Action Exfoliating Scrub for evening use.

And for that newbie teen skin (like my 13-year-old), Clean & Clear Morning Burst Facial Cleanser gently cleanses and removes dirt and oil without harming the skin. Bridges uses it in the mornings to help her wake up and get her energized for the morning!

2. Start a regular skin care routine now.

I learned this lesson too late in life. I don’t remember being taught that I should wash my face daily.

Starting a regular skin care routine now will help prevent your teen’s breakouts now and set their skin up for a solid future. Dermatologists recommend starting a skincare routine once your child starts to show signs of acne or increased oil on the face.

For a teen, a healthy skin care routine might mean starting off with a mild cleanser like Clean and Clear’s Morning Burst Facial Cleanser in the morning to help wake her up and a more exfoliating cleanser like Clean & Clear’s Acne Triple Clear™ Bubble Foam Cleanser at night to help her get ready for bed.

3. Keep oil blotting sheets handy.

The best trick we use to get my girls camera-ready is to keep some Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets handy. The girls just keep a package in their backpack and slip into the bathroom to blot their face of excess oil before school pictures so their faces don’t look shiny.

I wish someone had shared these skin care tips with me before my school photos.

As a parent of two teenaged girls, I want to make sure they have the tools they need to face today’s teen world with confidence. Clear skin radiates a happy, courageous teen and that’s exactly what I want for my two little business-women.
