March 20th marks the first day of spring, and whether it feels like it outside or not, this is the time to start assessing the condition of your outdoor living space and furniture. How to Measure for Replacement Cushions

You’ll need to measure your existing cushions for size, so lay them out on a flat surface and grab your yardstick or measuring tape. Don’t measure from seam to seam, but rather measure from edge to edge.

How to Measure for Chair Seats & Back Cushions

• Measure the length of the seat cushion from the front to the back.
• Measure the width of the seat cushion from one side to the other.
• Measure length of the back cushion from top to bottom.
• Measure the width of the back cushion from one edge to the other.

How to Measure for Chaise Lounge Cushions

• Measure the length of back portion from the top to the first fold.
• Measure the length of the seat portion from top fold to bottom fold (where leg rest portion begins).
• Measure the length of the leg rest portion from the fold to the end.
• Measure the width of the seat by measuring edge to edge.

How to Measure for Sofa or Love seat Cushions

• Measure the length (or depth) of the seat cushion at the center from the top to the bottom.
• Measure the width of the back of the seat cushion from end to end.
• Measure the width of the front of the seat cushion from end to end

How to Clean Your Cushions

1. Brush off loose dirt.
2. Spray on a cleaning solution of water and mild soap.
3. Use a soft bristle brush to clean.
4. Allow cleaning solution to soak into the fabric.
5. Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is removed.
6. Air dry.

 How to freshen up your outdoor space

1. Power wash your patio and deck surfaces, awnings, and umbrellas to clean off winter residue, fallen branches and accumulated leaves.
2. Inspect the condition of your wood patio. Boards may need replacing or simply a fresh coat of paint.
3. Scrub down your patio furniture to clean off stains and residue.
4. If you have wood-framed furnishing, inspect their condition the same. If they are weak, can they be repaired or do they need to be replaced?
5. Inspect the health of trees and plant life surrounding your backyard living space. Dead or dying trees may need to be removed for safety.
6. Add a few fresh flowers and inviting accessories for added outdoor ambiance. Lighting, wind chimes and water fountains can offer additional sensory stimulation in a relaxing and harmonious way.
